STEP 8 – MORE ABOUT TOPICAL USE

broken image

TOPICAL USE of Essential Oils allows us to target specific areas of the body. Not only does TOPICAL USE give us localized effects on the area of application, it also provides support for the entire body.

There are two terms you will want to know when applying your Essential Oils TOPICALLY: “DILUTION” and “NEAT.”

“DILUTION” is a process in which Essential Oils are mixed with a carrier oil that helps carry the Essential Oil onto the skin. There are many benefits to dilution, including increasing the surface area of absorption, enhancing absorption through dry skin, and preventing sensitivity responses.

Some of the more popular carrier oils include coconut oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, and avocado oil.

Our carrier oil of choice is Fractionated Coconut Oil due to its long shelf life, odorless quality that doesn’t deter from the Essential Oil aroma, and lightweight texture.

Fractionated Coconut Oil has all the great qualities of coconut oil, but the proteins have been removed, allowing the oil to stay in liquid form. This is great to add to your future orders.

“NEAT” refers to application of an Essential Oil straight from the bottle and without dilution. Oils classified as NEAT oils can be applied topically without dilution because of their exceptionally mild chemistry. These oils would include Frankincense, Lavender, Melaleuca, Melissa, and Sandalwood.

METHODS FOR USING YOUR OILS TOPICALLY

• Roller Bottles – Mix Essential Oils and a carrier oil for easy application.

• Buy Pre-Diluted Rollers – We offer a line of pre-diluted rollers and rubs for easy application that are safe for the whole family.

• Spa Hand and Body Lotion – Add a drop of Essential Oil to a small amount of lotion and apply directly to the area of application

TIPS

• When using a NEAT oil very regularly, dilute to avoid sensitivities.

• Do not dilute oils with water. Water and oil separate.

• Add a few drops of a soothing oil to Epsom Salts. Add to a warm bath.

• Make a hot or cold compress by soaking a towel in water and add Essential Oils.

• Mix with water and use as a mouth and throat rinse.

FROZEN WASHCLOTHS RECIPE

• 6–8 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil

• 2–3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

Put the rolled-up washcloths on a cookie sheet. Place them in the freezer. Use these Frozen Washcloths after a hard workout, to soothe head tension, and during hot summer days.
